HAYDOM LUTHERAN HOSPITAL OF ARUSHA, TANZANIA, AFRICA
I took a detour in my recent trip to Africa to visit a volunteer hospital. It was at the end of a long dusty road where most patients travel for days to reach. There is a barn behind the hospital where relatives stay, sleep, cook and clean, since the hospital cannot afford to feed or care for the patients who stay. The hospital is funded by donations from Norway, Germany, Canada and private organizations. The handful of doctors and nurses are helped out by volunteer health workers from other countries. Haydom Lutheran is the major hospital in the region serving a million people of northwest Tanzania. Despite these adverse conditions, people wait patiently to be seen and singing can often be heard. This series of photos will help with their outreach efforts and hopefully make up for their financial shortfalls due to the cutting of funds from foreign governments.
